Mewa is a pavilion constructed from a series a wooden ribs oriented around a central seating area. The central seating area offers a place for people to rest, contemplate their own individual journeys and ultimately a place for them to sit and manifest their futures.
Its form is reminiscent of the Qubba found in mosques, with three different mashrabiya inspired patterns developed by local AUS graduate Abdulaziz Malaikah. These patterns transform in complexity and style depending on their orientation and height.
Playing with the natural light available through the day, the installation provides both shelter from the sun and casts intricate shadows onto visitors. Whilst at night LEDs illuminate to create a beacon of manifestation.
